The court arrested Viktor Yanukovych in absentia in the case of the Mezhyhirya residence

The fourth Ukrainian president, Viktor Yanukovych, who fled to Russia, was arrested in absentia in the case of the appropriation of the Mezhyhirya residence. It also features his son Alexander. The decision was made by the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court on Thursday, October 7.

It should be noted that on October 4, the defense of the ex-president requested that the NABU detective return the request to choose a measure of restraint for Yanukovych and close the proceedings. The judge then refused to defend the accused. The decision was postponed until October 7.

It will be recalled that in late August, the High Anti-Corruption Court allowed a pre-trial investigation into Viktor Yanukovych and his son Oleksandr in absentia.

Both of them are suspected of abusing their official position and illegally taking over a complex of buildings in the Vyshhorod district, namely the Mezhyhirya residence. The damage caused to the state exceeds UAH 500 million.
