The number of drug addicts in Ukraine is increasing by 8-10% annually. So, today, from 1 to 1.5 million Ukrainians are drug addicts. This was stated by Prosecutor General of Ukraine Irina Venediktova at a meeting of heads of law enforcement and other state authorities.


"The growth rate of drug addiction in Ukraine is one of the highest in the world," she stressed.


According to Venediktova, about 120,000 people die of drug addiction and related diseases every year.


She also called the regions where the most crimes involving drug sales are registered: Kiev, Kharkiv, Dnepropetrovsk, Odessa and Donetsk regions.


According to Venediktova, about 20% of drugs in Ukraine are sold through the Internet.


"Every fifth fact of drug sales in 2021 was carried out with the help of the Internet.


This year, law enforcement agencies have recorded 24.5 thousand criminal offenses in the field of drugs, "- said the prosecutor general.


At the same time this year the National Police has seized almost five times less drugs than last year.
