Belarus refused to supply electricity to Ukraine

The letter sent to Belenergo claims that there are no plans to conclude new framework contracts on electricity supplies.

The participants of the energy market were informed about the decision of the state-owned company Belenergo to stop supplying electricity to Ukraine. This was reported by the Economical Pravda news and analysis website.

The document, sent by the state-owned Belarusian company Belenergo, was dated November 8. The letter reads that starting from this month, despite the signed agreements, there will be no supplies of electricity to the United Energy System (UES) of Ukraine.

Economic Pravda's sources say that such a letter was sent to several participants in the energy market, including the state-owned Enerhoatom. However, as the journalists note, there is no exact information whether all participants in the energy market received the document, so it is possible that only one or a few companies will be able to import electricity from Belarus.

According to Ukrenergo, on November 8, Ukraine receives 400 MWh from Belarus.

"Belenergo SPA informs that starting from November 2021, supplies of electricity to the UES of Ukraine on the basis of previously concluded framework contracts will not be carried out. The conclusion of new framework contracts is not planned. Thank you for your cooperation and interest in buying Belarusian electricity," the letter from state-run Belenergo published by Olga Kosharnaya, member of the board of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine, in her Facebook post.

Previously, Focus reported that Ukraine resumes importing electricity from Belarus due to shortages of coal. State-owned enterprise Energoatom bought 885 of the 900 MW available in the bidding process, while another 15 MW is imported by Eletcro Communications.
