It is necessary to abandon the sanctions against Nord Stream 2 - German government

The German government has called on members of the US Congress to drop sanctions against the Russian gas pipeline "Nord Stream-2", reports UNIAN.

About it writes Axios referring to the documents.

Germany believes that the sanctions will "weaken" confidence in the United States and "ultimately damage transatlantic unity."

The gas pipeline does not pose a threat to Ukraine as long as gas transit is carried out through its territory, Berlin is sure.

As a reminder, the IMF forecasts that the launch of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline can reduce Ukraine's income from gas transit by 40%, to 1.2 billion dollars per year until 2024, while the current contract with Gazprom on transit is in force.

Ukraine wants to extend the gas transit contract with Gazprom for 15 years.

The board chairman of Naftohaz Ukrayiny, Yuriy Vitrenko, believes that Russia deliberately reduces the volume of gas transit through Ukraine in order to blackmail Europe and force it to certify Nord Stream-2 as soon as possible.
