Inconsistency of partners' positions is the main obstacle to Ukraine's membership in the EU and NATO - Kuleba

Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba believes that the vision of individual EU and NATO countries of Ukraine through their relations with Russia is the main obstacle on Ukraine's way into these unions, reports Ukrainska Pravda.

Kuleba said this in an interview with the German publication Die Zeit.

According to Kuleba, Ukraine's membership in the EU and NATO is only a matter of time.

"Ukraine is a natural part of the European and Euro-Atlantic community. We understand that there is a certain skepticism in the EU about further enlargement. And that the country must meet all the Copenhagen criteria, which we will achieve. However, this is not the main obstacle for our membership in the EU," the Minister stressed.

According to him, the main obstacle is "the fact that individual NATO and EU countries still look at Ukraine through the prism of their relations with Russia.

"And so my message to them is simple: perceive Ukraine according to its own qualities and virtues. We deserve to be seen as Ukraine. Relations with Russia are one thing, relations with Ukraine are another," the minister said.

Earlier, Kuleba said that Ukraine could be admitted to the EU and NATO with "incomplete reforms" if there is a political decision.

The minister also insisted that the EU and NATO should provide a clear roadmap for the future membership of the Ukrainian state in the two blocs.

The foreign minister said that Ukraine was not ready to resolve the Donbas problem militarily and did not see an alternative to the Minsk agreements.
