New head of SAP should be elected without delay - G7 Ambassadors

Ambassadors of the Group of Seven (G7) countries have called on the commission electing the new Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor to complete the election process without delay.

According to "European Pravda," this was stated in a message from a group of G7 ambassadors to Ukraine on Twitter on the morning of December 2.

"The G7 ambassadors call on the commission electing the new Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor to complete its important function and complete the process of electing the new head of the SAP in full transparency without further delay," the diplomats said in the message.

The ambassadors stress that independent anti-corruption institutions, including an independent Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor, remain crucial to Ukraine's sustainability and prosperity, as well as to reducing the harmful influence of oligarchs on the Ukrainian economy and politics.

The other day, the G7 ambassadors called for avoiding a situation where there is no director at the NABU, saying that the delay in electing a new Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor should not be repeated.

The former head of the SAP, Nazar Kholodnitsky, resigned from his position in August 2020. The Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office still has no head.

Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova explained on December 1 that the competition to elect the head of the SAP is delayed because the commission cannot get together. She said that there were "subjective factors of individual people" in the delay.

The EU and US embassies in Ukraine explicitly stated that further support for Ukraine would depend on the transparency of the election of the new head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.
