Germany explained the suspension of Nord Stream-2 certification

Certification of Nord Stream-2 pipeline has been suspended because it does not meet the requirements of the European Union. At the same time, the issue of launching the project has a geopolitical nature.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the statement of German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock in an interview with the Italian newspaper La Stampa.

According to her, the country's government prescribed in the coalition agreement that all energy projects in Germany must comply with European requirements, and including Nord Stream 2.

"This is not the case at this time, so the certification process has been stopped," Berbock explained.

The German foreign minister also said that it is a political responsibility "to ensure that everyone in Europe, regardless of their income level, can afford electricity and heating."

"Therefore, it is important to strengthen European energy independence," Berbock added.

As a reminder, Germany previously allowed for the stoppage of Nord Stream 2. In particular, in the case of a new Russian invasion of Ukraine.

We will add, the Minister of economy of Germany allowed a complete stop of the "Nord Stream-2" because of threats to Ukraine.

Subsequently, it became known that the US Senate on January 14 will vote for a bill on sanctions against the Russian gas pipeline "Nord Stream-2".
