EU ready to stop gas supplies from Russia - Borrell

The European Union has developed an action plan in case Russia stops supplying gas to Europe. This was stated by Vice President of the European Commission, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, UNN.

According to Borrell, the EU is considering the possibility of cooperation with the U.S., Qatar and Azerbaijan on the issue of gas supplies if Russia decides to reduce or stop them.

"We are ready in case diplomacy fails, and we are considering all options," Borrell said.

The European Union has prepared retaliatory measures that would cause "serious damage" to the Russian economy and financial system.

"We are also considering export control measures that would have a longer-term effect, since they deny Russia the products it needs to realize its strategic ambitions," he said.

Borrell recalled that the EU will not abandon its support for Ukraine's sovereignty, its territorial integrity and its right to self-determination.

"Ukraine is our partner and neighbor: its security is our security," he added.

As a reminder, Kuleba and Borrell had a telephone conversation: they discussed sanctions against Russia.
