Switzerland cancels neutrality and imposes EU sanctions against Russia

Switzerland, which is not a member of the EU and traditionally observes neutrality, decided to impose the same package of sanctions against Russia as the European Union. This is how the vast majority of the developed world reacted to Russia's military invasion of Ukraine.

"The Federal Council decided to apply EU sanctions against Russia. On Monday, the Federal Council held an extraordinary meeting on Ukraine. The government was to decide on tougher sanctions against Moscow," the Tribune de Genève reported.

What steps did the EU take:

The EU will freeze the assets of Russia's central bank (the equivalent of Ukraine's NBU) and ban transactions with it;

The European Commission will impose new sanctions against Belarus;

block Russian propaganda media.
