Boris Johnson: Putin in "total panic," fearing a pro-democracy uprising in Moscow

Russian President Vladimir Putin is in a "complete panic" over the idea of a revolution in Moscow, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said at the Conservative Party conference in Blackpool on Saturday. This was reported by CNN.

"Why did he decide to invade this perfectly innocent country? He didn't really believe Ukraine would join NATO anytime soon, he knew full well there were no plans to put missiles on Ukrainian soil," Johnson said in his address, which was broadcast on the Conservative Party's Twitter page.

Johnson said Putin is "afraid" of Ukraine for a free press, free elections, democracy and open markets, and fears "an implicit rebuke to himself" from the Ukrainian model.

"He was afraid of the influence of this Ukrainian model on him and on Russia, and he was in a complete panic over the so-called color revolution in Moscow itself. That's why he's trying so violently to put out the fire of freedom in Ukraine. That's why it's so important that he fails," the British politician added.

Earlier, in an interview with the BBC, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that "in one important sense Putin has already failed.
