EU summit pledges to create Trust Fund of Solidarity with Ukraine

The EU leaders at the summit agreed to create a Solidarity Trust Fund with Ukraine and to support the reconstruction of our state.

This is what the summit conclusions say.

"Taking into account the destruction and enormous losses caused to Ukraine as a result of Russian military aggression, the European Union is committed to support the Ukrainian government in its immediate needs and, once the Russian offensive has ceased, in the reconstruction of a democratic Ukraine," the document said.

To this end, EU leaders agreed to create a Trust Fund of Solidarity with Ukraine and invited their international partners to participate in it.

It was decided to begin preparations for the creation of the fund without delay.

"The European Council calls for a timely organization of an international conference to raise funds for the Trust Fund of Solidarity with Ukraine," the summit conclusions said.

EU leaders also called on the European Commission to continue to provide technical assistance to help Ukraine implement necessary reforms.

The head of the European Council, Charles Michel, earlier talked about plans to create a Solidarity Fund with Ukraine to meet the urgent needs of Ukrainian citizens.

According to the plans, the fund will serve as the basis for rebuilding a free and democratic Ukraine in the long term after the cessation of hostilities.

Partners will be able to contribute to the fund through an international donors' conference.
