UN Secretary-General António Guterres has criticized the Security Council during his visit to Kyiv. He noted that the organization had failed to prevent or stop the war in Ukraine, writes The Guardian.

Let me be very clear. The Security Council has failed to do everything in its power to prevent and end this war. This is a source of great frustration, hopelessness and anger," Guterres said.

The U.N. secretary general promised to "expand efforts on all fronts" and increase the organization's financial aid to Ukraine. He specified that he was talking about allocating $100 million a month to reach 1.3 million people by May and 2 million by August.

The UN Security Council, which consists of 15 members, has the special task of ensuring global peace and security, the publication notes. After Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the organization has faced criticism for inaction.
