British Foreign Secretary: Ukraine's Victory is a Strategic and Moral Imperative for the West

British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss called on the West to continue to support Ukraine with heavy weapons, including aircraft, as well as to tighten sanctions.

The diplomat said so in an article in the Express.

"The battle for the Donbass is raging as Russian forces advance in the East and South. If Putin wins, he will target large areas of Ukraine and will not relent until the entire country is under his control," Truss said.

She said Putin is playing on the fact that the free world's desire to stop him cannot match his determination to bring Ukraine to its knees.

"We proved Russia wrong, and we will do it again. It is now clear that Putin cannot and will not break or subdue Ukraine. But we need to move on - the strategic and moral imperative for all of us is for Ukraine to win," Truss said.

"I urge our allies to do more to ensure that Ukraine gets what it needs, from heavy weapons such as tanks and aircraft to ammunition and other supplies. The best long-term security for Ukraine will be that it can defend itself against any impending aggression," the British foreign minister said.

According to Truss, Britain is working with Poland through a joint commission to equip Ukraine with NATO standard weapons.

"We must also continue to starve Putin's war-financing machine by sanctioning more of the financiers of his aggression, from oligarchs and banks to energy, gold and services. We must keep up the pressure while Putin's troops remain in Ukraine," Truss said.

But the minister argues that Britain is not seeking regime change in Russia: "But it should be understood: a weakened Russia is a consequence of Putin's decision to launch an unprovoked invasion.
