The Supreme Federal Council of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) elected Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi as president. The decision was made unanimously.

This was reported by the state news agency WAM.

"His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan was unanimously elected president of the United Arab Emirates to succeed the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan," the report said.

Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan is the younger brother of the late UAE President Sheikh Khalifa. When he suffered a stroke, he became the de facto ruler of the emirate of Abu Dhabi and all the UAE since 2014 and made all major decisions.
