Podolyak: NATO is an alliance for Hollywood, a beautiful brand

Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Office of the President, a member of the negotiating team, gave an interview to LB in which he stated that NATO now exists as a brand, but that it would be the right decision to accept Ukraine into the bloc before or immediately after the start of a full-scale invasion by Russia.

In an interview with LB, he opined that the position of defending exclusively Alliance members seems strange, given that a third of Europe is now at war."NATO is afraid in general, we have understood that NATO is an alliance for Hollywood, it is a beautiful brand. They hold summits, where they praise themselves, hang up medals for some theoretical solutions," Podolyak said.

In his opinion, an alternative to NATO is creation of military alliances that would really provide global security. This is a block, which must include countries that are ready to make a decision within 72 hours to help with weapons, money, advice and troops.

"We need to have alliances that are really willing to intervene. There are only a few barbaric countries in the world. I won't name them, we understand, we can actually count them on the fingers of one hand. Two of them have a strong potential to attack global security," he stressed.

Podolyak believes that the normal solution would have been to immediately admit Ukraine to NATO either on the eve or immediately after a full-scale invasion by Russia. "Yes, by an expedited procedure. It's a responsible policy, and it's just about values and the humanitarian mission. So it's legally simple enough. But if you are afraid, and we are going back to the political elites now, if you like to sit at some summits where everybody just praises each other - that's a different thing.I also have another question: if indeed some NATO member or candidate member gets its war, can we expect the Alliance to intervene? Would it take weeks for consultations to start?" - he noted.
