Wounded Ukrainian fighters will be treated in Norway

The Norwegian government has decided to accept wounded soldiers from Ukraine for medical evacuation and treatment in Norwegian hospitals.

This is stated in the Norwegian government's statement.

"Norway is one of the largest participants in the scheme of medical evacuation of civilians from the war in Ukraine. The Norwegian government has decided that wounded soldiers can be taken to Norway," said Minister of Justice and Public Security Emily Enger Mel.

It will be possible to bring wounded soldiers to Norway as part of efforts under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM). This will be about 550 patients under the pre-agreed Medevac program.

"Norway has no experience with medical evacuation of wounded soldiers from ongoing conflicts. We had to ensure that regulations allowed for the inclusion of wounded soldiers in the medical evacuation program," the minister said.

In Norway, the Bergen Hospital Trust, Oslo University Hospital Trust and Sunnaas Rehabilitation Hospital have extensive experience in treating burns, trauma and rehabilitation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in his address to the Norwegian Parliament, emphasized Norway's unique experience in these areas.
