Stefanchuk: If Ukraine is not granted EU candidate status, Putin will understand that he can move on with impunity

Ukraine is worth the candidate status for EU membership. And if this message is not heard by our country from the European leaders, the head of the Kremlin will understand that he can go further in this war.

The head of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk said this during a speech before the European Parliament.

"It is very important for the Ukrainian people to hear this powerful message from Europe. The message, which is that, 'what you are doing, it is not useless, and we see your opposition. Friends, if we don't get that message on June 24, Putin will get that message. He will realize that he can now move on with impunity. I ask you: let's do everything so that June 24 becomes a turning point and our great common victory," Stefanchuk urged.

At the same time, he noted, Ukraine is clearly aware that it is only the status of the candidate.

"We are clearly aware and guarantee that having received this momentum, the political message, we are ready to work further, but ready to do it quickly and qualitatively, as we did when filling out the questionnaire for the EU candidacy," the Rada speaker added.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has already stated that the unwillingness of some EU member states to grant our country such a status is more a psychological barrier than a rationally justified position.

Earlier it became known that the European Parliament will recommend the heads of the EU states and governments to grant Ukraine the status of candidate for accession.
