Kislitsa hinted at the illegitimacy of Russia's participation in the UN Security Council

At one time there was no vote in the UN Security Council and General Assembly to accept the Russian Federation instead of the Soviet Union after its collapse in 1991. This provoked a series of tragic events.

This was stated by the permanent representative of Ukraine to the UN Sergey Kislitsa.

"The event that took place in this hall in December 1991 provoked a sequence of tragic events. Imagine, on the last day before Christmas, the chairman of the Security Council, Soviet Ambassador Vorontsov, closes the meetings of the Council. The next Council meeting is opened by the same person - and, oh, miracle! - as a representative of another country - the Russian Federation. A country which at the time was not on the UN Charter or on the list of UN member states in general," Kislitsa noted.

He also pointed out that there was no vote on the issue in the Security Council.

"There was no vote in the General Assembly. There was no official decision by any body, and not because of the Christmas recess," Kislitsa stressed.

He recalled that then-Russian President Boris Yeltsin only notified the UN of his decision, and someone enacted the decision without public discussion and without a vote.

"And Ambassador Vorontsov managed to convince the Secretary General to accept under the Christmas tree his credentials as a representative of Russia," Kislitsa stressed.

Recall, also the permanent representative of Ukraine to the UN said that the civilized world must work together to put an end to Russian fascism.

In June, Russia was accused of violence in Ukraine at a UN Security Council meeting, which resulted in the scandalous departure of Russian representative Vasily Nebenzya.
