Zelensky in Lugano: Rebuilding Ukraine is a task for the entire civilized world

Ukraine's reconstruction is not a local project, but a common task for the entire civilized world, President Volodymyr Zelensky said by video link at a conference on Ukraine's reconstruction in Lugano on Monday.

"This war is not just our war, not just a local war somewhere in eastern Europe. It is Russia's attack on everything that is of value to you and me. Therefore, the reconstruction of Ukraine is also not a local project, not a project of one people, but a common task of the entire democratic world. of all countries that can say of themselves - we are civilized," he said.

Speaking about the reconstruction, he noted that "of course it means construction, large-scale construction, of course it means huge funding and colossal investments. Of course, it means a whole new level of security throughout our country, which will continue to live next to Russia."

"But it also means a new level of technology. It also means an opportunity for our countries, our companies, our professionals to show why freedom is more powerful than any tyranny," he said.

According to him, "Back in the spring, we began to offer our partners to join the project to rebuild Ukraine. It was already clear back then that this would be the biggest project of our time - economic, technological, social, and, most importantly, ideological".

Zelensky expressed gratitude to the countries that "positively accepted our offers to take patronage over the regions, cities or industries affected by the war."

"In particular, I am grateful to Denmark for its readiness to become a patron of the reconstruction of the city of Mykolayiv. I am grateful to Britain for its interest in the restoration of the Kyiv region. And I also invite all countries of the civilized world, ambitious companies and specialists to join our efforts," he said.

In his opinion, "it will create millions of new ties in the democratic world, in Europe, between our countries. Every city, every community, every industry built will have a historical record of who helped. Just imagine, these are not just the flags of a partner country at the entrance to a city, but woven into the new fabric of life in Ukraine are the traditions and legacies of all those who worked to rebuild it.

"And, of course, I am grateful to the European Commission for the initiative to create a special European platform for the reconstruction of Ukraine," he said.
