Ireland will help Ukraine with reconstruction, Irish Prime Minister Michol Martin said.

"We understand that those people who have now taken refuge in Ireland want to return to Ukraine. That's why we will help with reconstruction," Martin said at a news conference following talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Wednesday.

He also assured that his country will help Ukraine on its path to EU membership.

"We have always said that Ukraine's place belongs in the EU, that you are fighting and defending EU values and Europe in general. Together we convinced the European Commission to give a positive recommendation so quickly. You deserve it. On the way to this difficult leadership process, we will be with you, we will try to help Ukraine in every way, we will work with European institutions and the European Commission, because we already have 50 years of experience in the EU. And we want very much that a similar transformation process will take place in Ukraine," Martin said.

The minister noted that Ireland will do everything possible to ensure that no one will suffer from attempts to turn food into weapons.
