The world is one step away from nuclear annihilation - UN Secretary General

UN Secretary General António Guterres said that the world is facing a nuclear threat unseen since the Cold War.

It is reported by Sky News.

Nuclear threats are on the agenda of the meeting in New York of the signatories to the non-proliferation treaty.

Threats stemming from war in Ukraine, as well as in Asia and the Middle East, separate the world from nuclear annihilation by "one misunderstanding, one miscalculation," the UN secretary-general said.

António Guterres made the comments at the talks in New York, telling officials that this is a time of nuclear danger not seen since the height of the Cold War.

"So far we've been very lucky. But luck is not a strategy. Nor is it a defense against geopolitical tensions that escalate into a nuclear conflict," he said.
