Pentagon chief arrives in Latvia to discuss support for Ukraine

The head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, has arrived in Latvia to discuss military assistance to Ukraine.

 

Austin told about it in his Twitter.

 

"Landed in Riga, Latvia. I'm looking forward to meeting with the top leadership of the Latvian government to discuss security in the region and the importance of continued support for Ukraine," Austin said on his Twitter.

 

On August 8, the U.S. Department of Defense announced another $1 billion military aid package for Ukraine.

 

The new military aid package includes, among other things, additional ammunition for HIMARS, shells for 155mm artillery, 120mm mortar systems and shells for them, 1,000 Javelin and hundreds of AT4 anti-tank systems, and 50 BMPs.

 

On August 1, the Pentagon announced a new military assistance package for Ukraine worth up to $550 million, including additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery and Missile Systems (HIMARS).
