The Inspector General of the Bundeswehr doubts the ability of the Armed Forces to carry out a broad counteroffensive

The Inspector General of the Bundeswehr, Erberghard Zorn, assessed the latest reports about the success of the Ukrainian counteroffensive quite critically. He said this in an interview with the German publication Focus.

"I'm careful with timing," he said. Currently, Zorn sees more "counterattacks that can be used to win back places or individual sections of the front, but not to deny Russia on a broad front."

According to him, the Ukrainian army acts "reasonably, rarely fires a salvo and conducts operations confidently and very flexibly." But Zorn doubts that the Ukrainians will have enough strength for a real counteroffensive.

For this, according to him, "at least a three to one advantage" is needed.

However, he critically assesses the state of Russian units: "We are observing stagnation, a war of attrition. No far-sighted operations are being conducted. Two weeks ago, I would have said that in six months the entire Donbas would be in the hands of Russia. Today I say: they will not have time."

Zorn also accepted the defense of the German government on the issue of arms supplies to Ukraine. According to him, the list of delivered goods is considerable, both quantitatively and qualitatively. However, he cautions against further arms shipments and cites security needs.
