The US Embassy in Moscow recommended that citizens of the United States leave Russia immediately. The embassy warned on its website that Americans risk being mobilized.

 "Russia may refuse to recognize US citizenship in persons with dual citizenship, deprive them of access to US consular assistance, prevent their departure from Russia, and conscript persons with dual citizenship into military service," the message reads.

 The embassy emphasized that commercial flight options are extremely limited, so Americans are advised to use ground routes for departure.

 "If you wish to leave Russia, you should do so on your own as soon as possible. The US Embassy has severe restrictions on providing assistance to US citizens, and conditions, including transportation options, may suddenly become even more limited," the US Embassy said.

 Diplomats also do not advise US citizens to visit Russia, and those currently in the Russian Federation have been advised to avoid political or social protests.
