The Minister of Education of Georgia will be questioned in the parliament about Russian schools

On Friday, the Minister of Education of Georgia, Mikheil Chhenkeli, will answer questions from the faction of the opposition National Movement regarding Russian schools in the country.

This is reported by "Georgia Online".

The parliamentarians exercised their right to interpellation, a special type of official inquiry in which a government representative answers questions.

The first issue is the increase in the number of Russian-language schools in Georgia after the influx of migrants from Russia.

According to the faction, there are currently 11 municipal Russian schools and 47 Russian-speaking sectors in mixed schools in Georgia. As a result, the number of private Russian-language schools is increasing.

The fraction asks the minister to clarify the department's policy on this issue.

The opposition is also worried about the increase in the number of students who have taken an academic leave - mostly out-of-towners who cannot afford to live in cities due to rising prices.

On Friday, Prime Minister Iraklii Garibashvili will also answer the questions of the deputies in the parliament. The block of questions for the prime minister concerns the fulfillment of the conditions of the European Commission for Georgia to acquire the status of a candidate for EU accession.

According to Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, after Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision on mobilization, more than 700,000 Russians crossed the border with Georgia, and more than 100,000 of them remained in the country.

78% of surveyed citizens of Georgia do not support free visa-free entry of citizens of Russia into the country.
