The SSU inspects the UOC MP in Zhytomyr Oblast

The Office of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Zhytomyr Region reported that the Security Service of Ukraine is conducting security measures at three facilities of the UOC (MP) in the Zhytomyr Region.

 "Security (counter-intelligence) measures of the SSU at the facilities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church are ongoing in the Zhytomyr region," the SSU office said.

 As indicated, this time the events are held in the Korosten district on the territory and in the premises:

 - Chopovytskyi Athos Icon of the Mother of God of the Female Stauropygian Monastery;

 - Kazan icon of the Mother of God of the men's monastery of the Ovrutsk-Korosten diocese;

 - The hermitage of this monastery in honor of Saint Siluan of Athos.

 "Security measures are carried out by the employees of the Security Service of Ukraine together with the National Police and the National Guard with the direct participation of representatives of the church. Their goal is to identify and counteract the subversive activities of Russian special services in the religious environment of our country. Taking into account the full-scale military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, these measures are carried out by the security service, including to prevent the use of religious communities affiliated with centers of influence in the Russian Federation as a center of the "Russian peace" and to protect the population from possible provocations and terrorist acts," the department reported.

 As noted, together with representatives of religious organizations, law enforcement officers conduct an inspection of the territory and premises to identify persons who may be involved in illegal activities and objects prohibited for circulation on the territory of our state.

 "All actions take place within the limits of current legislation and in accordance with the relevant instructions of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. We emphasize once again: in its activities, the SSU is guided exclusively by the Constitution of Ukraine and current legislation, and also respects the rights of every citizen to freedom of choice of religion and worldview ", the SBU noted.

 Since the end of November, the SSU has been conducting searches in dioceses of the UOC MP across Ukraine. One of the first inspections took place in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

 At the beginning of December, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy implemented the decision of the National Security Council to ban religious organizations in Ukraine that are influenced by Russia.
