North Korea has condemned Japan's new security strategy for changing the regional security environment and threatened a military response.

 North Korean officials have called Tokyo's plans to increase the country's defense capabilities a "new policy of aggression" that will lead to fundamental changes in security in East Asia.

 "Japan is causing a serious security crisis on the Korean Peninsula and the East Asian region by adopting a new security strategy that actually recognizes its ability to preemptively strike other countries," said a representative of the North Korean Foreign Ministry.

 Pyongyang also criticized the US for "supporting and inciting the rearmament and re-invasion of Japan" and said that Washington had no right to raise the issue of North Korea's efforts to strengthen its defenses.
