In Georgia, they say goodbye to Vakhtang Kikabidze, according to the decision of the family, the coffin was covered with Ukrainian and Georgian flags

Today, January 19, the funeral of the famous Georgian actor and singer Vakhtang Kikabidze is taking place in Tbilisi. He will be buried, according to his will, at the old Veria cemetery, next to his mother.

After the memorial service in the Kashveti temple, his coffin was moved to the Tbilisi Philharmonic on the morning of January 19 for the final farewell ceremony. It is planned that Minister of Culture Oleksandr Tkachenko will appear at the farewell ceremony and read the statement of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi. The embassy of Ukraine informed about this earlier.

Kikabidze's coffin is covered with two flags - Georgian and Ukrainian. According to Georgian mass media, it was the family's decision.

The legendary Georgian artist Vakhtang Kikabidze died on January 15 at the age of 84.

Earlier, Kikabidze called the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine a real genocide and said that he was already in Ukraine after the start of full-scale aggression.

"It's a terrible sight. I haven't seen it even in the movies. Now the cities I used to fly to with concerts - there is nothing. Everything was razed to the ground. There is nothing left. And what else is called genocide? When children are taken away, they are sent to some distant countries. When orphanages explode, when maternity homes, kindergartens are blown up. My tongue doesn't come back," said Kikabidze.

Kikabidze compared Putin to Stalin, who "shot half of the intelligentsia in his time." In his interviews, the artist repeatedly said that he supports the Ukrainian people in the fight against the occupiers.

The actor also previously donated funds from the jubilee concert to the Armed Forces.
