The EU will provide Ukraine with the first billion for reconstruction after the war

The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced in Kyiv the allocation of the first billion euros under the "Rapid Recovery" plan.

She said this at a press conference following the Ukraine-EU summit.

"Helping now to repair the damage Putin's bombs are doing to energy infrastructure is one part. But rebuilding homes, roads, infrastructure, schools, hospitals is a daily job that needs to be done. That's why it's so important that we start Rapid Recovery immediately." This is embedded in the larger recovery process. I am delighted that we can announce that the first billion from the Rapid Recovery will be delivered... So work can start immediately," she said.
