Imports of Russian oil to Germany decreased by 99.9%

After the second stage of the EU oil embargo came into force, almost no Russian oil is imported into Germany.

This is reported by Tagesschau with reference to the data of the Federal Statistical Office.

So, in January 2023, only 3,500 tons of Russian oil arrived in Germany. In January 2022 - a month before the Russian attack on Ukraine - the volume of imports was still 2.8 million tons.

"As a result, the import of oil from Russia practically stopped," - reports the statistical office.

"Arithmetically, it fell by 99.9 percent," the agency added.

The share of Russia in the total volume of oil imports to Germany fell from 36.5% in January 2022 to only 0.1%.

It will be recalled that in January, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner stated that Germany is no longer dependent on Russian energy imports.

Lindner said Germany has fully diversified its energy infrastructure since Russia's invasion of Ukraine last year.
