Scholz and Biden welcomed the decision of the court in The Hague to issue an arrest warrant for Putin

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz welcomed the decision of the International Criminal Court in The Hague to issue an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

This is reported by The Guardian.

Scholz said at a joint press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Tokyo that it shows that "no one is above the law."

"The International Criminal Court is the right institution to investigate war crimes ... The fact is that no one is above the law, and that is what is becoming clear right now," Scholz said.

US President Joe Biden also called the decision of the International Criminal Court to issue a warrant for the personal arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin in connection with what Russia has committed in Ukraine a strong step.

 This is reported by CNN.

Biden said that he considers the decision of the ICC chamber to be reasonable and that this is a powerful signal.

"I think this is justified... There is a problem that we (the USA - ed.) do not recognize the warrant at the international level either. However, in my opinion, this is a very strong step," said the US president.

Later, in his comments to journalists, he said that the Russian president "clearly committed war crimes."

It will be recalled that the International Criminal Court issued a warrant for the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The decision was made in the case of the deportation of Ukrainian children from the temporarily occupied territories.

According to the court, the crimes took place at least since February 24, 2022, and the Russian president bears individual criminal responsibility for this
