Germany will extradite Putin to the International Criminal Court - the country's Ministry of Justice

Germany will comply with a court order in The Hague and arrest suspected Russian dictator Vladimir Putin if he comes to Germany. This was stated by Federal Minister of Justice of Germany Marco Buschmann, reports Bild.

"I expect that the ICC will quickly turn to Interpol and the states that are part of the agreement and ask them to ensure the implementation of (the decision of the ICC - ed.)," the minister said.

Then Germany would be obliged to arrest Putin and hand him over to the International Criminal Court if he entered German territory, Bushman continued.

Bild quotes international law professor Marcel Kau (University of Konstanz) as calling the ICC's decision to authorize Putin's arrest "an extreme measure with far-reaching legal and practical consequences for Putin's freedom of movement." He noted that there is currently a debate in the world about whether countries that have not joined the ISS should take into account the decision made in The Hague. At the same time, the court's decision is significant for two-thirds of all countries in the world, including all EU member states.

He added that "even if Putin was invited to the EU for peace talks, the arrest warrant would have to be removed from him."

On March 17, the International Criminal Court in The Hague charged the head of the Kremlin with the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children, which is recognized as a war crime under international law. The court issued a warrant for the dictator's arrest.

The ISS operates in accordance with the Rome Statute, 123 countries are parties to the treaty.
