Clash in the Lavra: MP parishioners fought with the police and broke the seal of one of the buildings

On the territory of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, parishioners of the UOC MP clashed with law enforcement officers. The crowd damaged the protective shutters of the building sealed by the Ministry of Culture.

The congregation of the Moscow Patriarchate tried to get inside the premises, which was sealed this morning by the commission of the Ministry of Culture. Violators broke the seal and damaged the protective shutters. Clashes broke out between angry believers and law enforcement officers.

Judging by the footage, a group of law enforcement officers has already left the territory of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

The actions of MP parishioners are now recorded by the police. The issue of the legal qualification of the event is being resolved, Yulia Girdvilis, press secretary of the capital police, said in a comment to UP.

It is known that the commission of the Ministry of Culture continues to work at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra to assess the condition of the complex's facilities, which were used by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Russian Orthodox Church under the terms of the lease.

The commission has already managed to inspect three buildings of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, Oleksandr Tkachenko, Minister of Culture and Information Policy, noted in turn.

He clarified that they inspected three monuments, two of national and one of local importance, namely buildings 37, 37 and 38: galleries to the Near Caves, bell towers on the Near Caves, entrance to the Near Caves Gallery.

Tkachenko added that the objects are architectural monuments and are included in the ensemble of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and UNESCO World Heritage sites. At the same time, he published a photo showing the abandoned state of the buildings. According to the minister, no fire-fighting measures were recorded in this area either.

What is known about the eviction of the UOC-MP from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

The priests of the Moscow Patriarchate were supposed to vacate the premises of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra as early as March 29, but they still remain on the territory of the reserve, contrary to the decision of the authorities.

On the eve of the eviction, the ex-deputy of the UOC MP Lavra Pavlo Lebid incited his congregation to take more active actions to "protect" the main Ukrainian shrine. For now, he is under house arrest - in particular, on suspicion of justifying Russia's aggression.

The next day, March 30, the first skirmish between the parishioners of the Moscow Patriarchate and the representatives of the commission of the Ministry of Culture took place in the Lavra, in front of whom the doors to the churches were closed. In general, specialists have three months to assess the condition of state property.

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church has already appointed the acting vicar of the Lavra, Archimadrite of the Pechersk Lavra of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Russian Orthodox Church, Avraamiy, who has joined the Orthodox Church. It is also known that part of the brothers of the monastery transferred to the OCU.
