Moldova became less dependent on Russian gas after cutting consumption following the outbreak of full-scale war in Ukraine.

 This was announced on Thursday by the Prime Minister of the country, Dorin Rechan.

 "If at the beginning of the war 100% of the energy consumed by Moldova came from Russia, today Moldova is no longer dependent on energy supplies from Russia," Recan said at a security conference in Bucharest.

 "Moldova no longer consumes natural gas from Russia, the Republic of Moldova is integrated into the European energy network both technically and commercially," he added.

 According to Recan, Romania helped the country cope with energy challenges.

 Moldova was almost completely dependent on the Russian gas company Gazprom for gas imports. The supply of natural gas led to frequent disputes between Moldova and Russia.

 It will be recalled that investigative journalists recently learned about the Russian strategy of influencing Moldova, which involved the exploitation of the country's dependence on Russian imports, in particular gas, to achieve political goals.

 Last December, Romania started exporting gas to Moldova through the Iasi-Ungheni pipeline.
