The head of the IAEA is preparing a new safety plan for the ZNPP for the UN Security Council

The International Atomic Energy Agency insists on concluding agreements on the safety of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant before waiting for a Ukrainian counteroffensive.

After almost nine months of unsuccessful attempts to establish an agreement between Ukraine and Russia on the creation of a protective zone around the nuclear power plant, IAEA head Rafael Grossi insists on new proposals to reduce the possibility of a catastrophic nuclear disaster.

He plans to add a list of five principles for approval by the UN Security Council on May 30, US and European diplomats told WP.

According to two diplomats familiar with the negotiations, Grossi's plan includes five principles: a ban on placing heavy military equipment and military personnel on the station's territory; firing from the territory of the station and in the direction of the station is prohibited, including the prohibition of attacking personnel located at the facility; protection of all security systems at the station; protection of all external power lines; and monitoring compliance with the above principles.
