The court in The Hague allowed Lithuania to intervene in the case of Ukraine against Russia

The UN International Court of Justice in The Hague allowed Lithuania to join the case of Ukraine against Russia regarding Moscow's war crimes.

This was stated by the Minister of Justice of Lithuania Evelina Dobrovolska, reports LRT.

"We were recently informed that this week the International Court of Justice confirmed and allowed Lithuania to intervene in the case "Ukraine v. Russia" ... we are glad to have received confirmation that we can intervene in this case, we are entering and now within a month we have to provide their written explanations," she said.

Dobrovolska emphasized that the war continues, and the number of episodes that led to investigations against Russia is increasing, in particular, the undermining of the Kakhovskaya HPP.

"Each new episode is evaluated, and that's why sometimes it's very difficult to say how many indictments there will be, how many indictment episodes, according to what composition, we are still watching the war, new episodes, probably no one can estimate the scale right now, because it's not only about the military crimes, we are talking about consequences that will clearly affect society, infrastructure and nature," the Lithuanian minister said.

Last year, Lithuania officially submitted a request to join the war crimes case of Ukraine against Russia at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

Ukraine, Lithuania and other countries in the region are also pushing for a special tribunal to investigate the crimes of Russian aggression, which would allow Kremlin leaders to be prosecuted.

It will be recalled that on June 6, the UN International Court of Justice in The Hague began considering the merits of Ukraine's lawsuit against Russia in connection with the violation of the last two UN conventions. It is about the case "Application of the International Convention on Combating the Financing of Terrorism and the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination."

This is the first of the cases of Ukraine against Russia in international courts, which has reached the level of consideration on the merits.

The hearing, which involves two rounds of presentation of the parties' arguments, is the final stage before a decision is reached.
