The Turkish parliament will ratify Sweden's application to join NATO, but only if the administration of US President Joe Biden approves the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Ankara. This was stated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Reuters reports.
Erdogan also said that the Turkish Foreign Minister and the US Secretary of State discussed the topic of Sweden's accession to NATO during the negotiations.
The Turkish president noted that the US administration is linking the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Turkey to Ankara's approval of Sweden's NATO application.
"If they (the US) fulfill their promises, our parliament will also fulfill its promise. The Turkish parliament will have the final say on Sweden's NATO membership," Erdogan said.
As a reminder, Turkey has requested F-16 fighter jets and modernization kits in October 2021.
