Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is in a stable but serious condition. This was reported by AP with reference to a hospital representative.

However, there is still conflicting information about the politician's condition. Earlier, the Slovak Defense Minister said that Fico's condition was “extremely serious.” However, Filip Kuffa from the Slovak National Party stated that Fico was in a stable condition.

Currently, journalists are on duty outside Fico's hospital and are waiting for official statements.

Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok said that the attempt on the prime minister's life was committed for political reasons.

The Interior Minister explained that such conclusions are based on “the first conversations with the suspect.”

“This attempt was politically motivated, and the suspect decided to do it shortly after the presidential election,” Sutaj Estok said.

He also called on all those covering political life to “stop spreading hatred” on social media.

Slovak Deputy Prime Minister Tomáš Taraba told the BBC that Fico was seriously wounded: one bullet went through his stomach and the other hit a joint.

“I was very shocked, fortunately, as far as I know, the operation went well, and I think he will survive in the end, his life is not in danger now,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
