According to parliamentary rules, the autumn session of the Georgian Parliament will open tomorrow, September 2, on the first Tuesday of the month.

Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, speaking at today’s Bureau meeting, explained that under the regulations, plenary sittings are not usually held in the month preceding parliamentary or local elections.

“We will follow this schedule. Plenary sittings will take place this week, and then there will be a pause until the elections. Committee meetings on current issues may continue. After the elections, Parliament will resume plenary sittings. Of course, if necessary, a plenary session can be convened at any time, but to allow MPs to engage in the election campaign, plenary meetings will not be held this month”, Papuashvili said.

Plenary sittings are scheduled for September 2 and 3. The agenda includes the discussion of the temporary investigative commission’s report, the election of the new head of the State Security Service, and the recognition of mandates of 12 MPs from the political group For Georgia, who will replace members whose mandates have been terminated. Legislative initiatives will also be reviewed.

Additionally, the Bureau forwarded to the Legal Affairs Committee a July 9 submission from the High Council of Justice of Georgia proposing Levan Nemsadze’s candidacy for the position of Supreme Court judge.
