46% of EU citizens support Georgia’s EU accession, Eurobarometer survey shows

Forty-six percent of citizens across EU member states support Georgia’s accession to the European Union once it meets all membership conditions, while 43 percent oppose it, according to a new Eurobarometer survey published by the European Commission.
The strongest backing for Georgia’s membership is recorded in:
Sweden (71%)
Lithuania (62%)
Denmark (61%)
Latvia (61%)
In contrast, the lowest levels of support are found in Czechia and Austria (29% each) and in France (36%).
The report notes that, on average across the EU, one in ten respondents (10%) are strongly in favour of Georgia joining, while 36% are fairly in favour. Meanwhile, 27% are fairly opposed and 16% strongly opposed. In 17 EU member states, at least half of respondents expressed support for Georgia’s accession.
The survey also highlights that Ukraine is the most favoured candidate for EU membership, leading in 14 member states. Montenegro follows, with 51% of respondents across the bloc backing its membership bid, making it the most supported candidate in seven countries.
