Abkhazia is part of the Russian world. The Abkhazian society is oriented towards the Russian world and its creation, said the Secretary of Abkhazia’s de facto Security Council, Sergey Shamba, during the round table Cultural-social space of Abkhazia and Russia held in Sukhumi this week.
He claimed the “great Russian culture” had largely influenced the formation of many nationalities during the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union.
“Abkhazia has always been fascinated by the Russian creative intelligentsia – writers, artists and many others”, he said.
Russia recognised two Georgian regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) as independent republics after its invasion of Georgia in 2008.
Only Venezuela, Nicaragua, Nauru and Syria have joined the illegal stance so far, while the rest of the international community is unanimous that the regions are under occupation.
