Large quantity of drugs seized in Georgia’s Adjara region, Russian citizen arrested

Georgian law enforcement officers have seized an especially large quantity of narcotics in the Adjara region, with a Russian citizen taken into custody, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Sunday.

The body added officers from the Adjara Main Division arrested a Russian national born in 1999, identified as M.A., on charges of illegally purchasing and possessing a particularly large quantity of narcotic drugs, as well as facilitating their illegal sale.

Police reported that during a personal search of the suspect in the region’s central city of Batumi, and as part of an investigative experiment, officers recovered an especially large quantity of the narcotic substance methadone prepared for distribution as evidence. Materials used for packaging drugs were also seized from the suspect’s residence.

The crime is punishable by up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
