Georgia’s Interior Ministry on Wednesday said two Moroccan citizens had been arrested for allegedly crossing the country’s border illegally and in a group.
The men, identified only as J.K., born in 1991, and M.A., born in 1984, were detained during a joint operation carried out by the Patrol Police Department’s Border Management and Coordination Division and its Investigative Unit in Adjara.
Investigators alleged the pair crossed Georgia’s state border unlawfully, bypassing an official checkpoint. Both were charged and remain in custody.
The Interior Ministry said the case was being investigated under Article 344, Part 2 of the Georgian Criminal Code, which deals with illegal group border crossing and carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison.
