Political prisoner Dimitri Kvachrelashvili is prepared to provide detailed information to investigators regarding the murder of Niko Kvaratskhelia, his lawyer said on Wednesday.

Attorney Tornike Migineishvili said in a social media post that Kvachrelashvili was ready to meet with a prosecutor at Rustavi Penitentiary No. 12, in the presence of legal counsel, and assist Kvaratskhelia’s family in establishing the full truth surrounding the case.

The statement followed a recent public announcement by the Prosecutor’s Office declaring the Kvaratskhelia murder case solved.

Migineishvili noted that, with his client’s consent, he can now disclose important information that had been handled confidentially for several months in a closed format.

Kvachrelashvili, the former head of the Tskneti Police Department, recalled the day the individuals involved in the killing were detained.

According to the lawyer, he was the officer who arrested the suspects - Aleko Chelidze and Giorgi Kaveladze.

Migineishvili said that the former police chief was the first to question the detainees and hear their account, obtaining information about the individuals involved in the crime and details that could be significant for an objective investigation.

The lawyer also said that Kvachrelashvili possessed information about individuals who arrived at the Tskneti Police Department and subsequently took the suspects away for questioning.

“Today, political prisoner Dimitri Kvachrelashvili is ready to provide detailed information to a prosecutor at Rustavi Penitentiary No. 12, in the presence of his lawyer, and to assist Niko Kvaratskhelia’s family in establishing the full truth,” Migineishvili wrote.
