Albania has cut diplomatic ties with Iran, expelled officials for cyber attack over ‘state aggression’.

Albania has ordered Iranian officials to leave the country and severed diplomatic ties with Tehran after an investigation into a cyber attack in July that Tehran said was “state aggression” by Iran.

Prime Minister Edi Rama announced the expulsion of all Iranian diplomats and embassy staff on Wednesday, giving them 24 hours to leave the country.

Rama’s official website described it as “unmistakable” evidence that Tehran supported “an act of serious cyber attack against the digital infrastructure of the Government of the Republic of Albania”.

Rama said Tirana had already informed Iran of its decision in a diplomatic note to the Iranian embassy.

He also stated that Albania has shared its findings with NATO members.
