A series of large explosions occurred at a military base in Equatorial Guinea.

According to President Teodoro Obiang Nguema, the explosions took place in the city of Bata due to negligence involving the use of dynamite.

At least 15 people died, another 500 were injured. The Ministry of Health reported 20 dead.

The wards of the local hospital are overcrowded with wounded, some lying on the floor or on tables.

After the explosion, the iron roofs were blown off the houses. Only a few walls have survived from most of the residential buildings.

Immediately after that, people scattered in all directions, many of them stunned and shouting. Firefighters tried to extinguish the flames.
