Another country withdraws signature from Ukraine Peace Summit Communiqué

Another country has withdrawn its signature from the summary communiqué of the Peace Summit initiated by Ukraine. According to Ukrainska Pravda, the updated list published on the website of the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the summit host, indicates that Rwanda is no longer included as of Monday. 

Rwanda’s withdrawal follows the announcements on the previous day that Iraq and Jordan had also withdrawn their signatures. Rwanda was initially on the list. Additionally, the Ecumenical Patriarchate was added to the list of signatories on Monday. The peace summit took place on June 15-16 in the Swiss resort of Burgenstock.

On the final day of the summit, the communiqué was signed by four organisations and 80 countries, including Turkey, Hungary, and Serbia, which maintain close contacts with Russia. Countries that did not join the declaration include Armenia, India, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, and South Africa.

The Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the communiqué is a living document, and states can join or withdraw their signatures at any time.

Russia was not invited to the summit. Prior to the event, Ukrainian authorities repeatedly stated that Russia was trying to pressure various countries to abstain from participating in the summit using various leverage.
