Funds supporting individuals affected by protests have released a joint statement condemning new government-imposed restrictions and increased financial sanctions, including higher fines that directly limit freedom of expression.
“In a situation where the so-called authorities are imposing new restrictions and strengthening financial sanctions, increasing fines that directly curb freedom of expression, we continue to support affected citizens.
We urge all fined individuals to challenge the imposed penalties in all relevant legal instances alongside receiving our assistance.
Lawyers are ready to provide free legal aid during the appeal process. (Free legal assistance hotlines: +995577070563; 032 2 052644; +995599996953; 032 2 420737)
This process will give the funds additional time to secure necessary financial resources while also putting pressure on the system that seeks to suppress citizens through such measures.
It is important to note that this pressure extends not only to citizens but also to businesses and individuals who attempt to assist fined protesters through these funds.
After the appeal procedures are completed, the support funds will cover the fines according to their declared objectives and within the limits of available resources.
Priority will be given to covering fines that are no longer subject to appeal and have reached their final payment deadlines,” the statement reads.
The joint statement was issued by Phosphorite Georgia, Nanuka’s Fund, For Each Other, Tbilisi Human Rights House, and University of Georgia.
