The organization “Former Political Prisoners for Human Rights” addresses the Western partners of Georgia with a statement and calls on them to be objective in assessing the internal political processes in the country.

The “former political prisoners” positively assess the decision of the government to withdraw from the document of Charles Michel and note that this decision strengthens the sovereignty of the country. “With the withdrawal from Charles Michel unilateral agreement, the government, as it turned out, made a worthy decision, which establishes both the constitutional framework of the process and the sovereignty of the country. Soviet-era political prisoners in the struggle for the country’s independence have always searched for allies in the democratic world.

Many of our friends and strategic partners have stood by the Georgian people in their quest for democracy and freedom, to which we will always be grateful. However, there have been cases where we have misunderstood the positions of our partners on this path and we have openly stated this. This time, too, we believe that the recent statements and calls of our Western partners are in some cases perceived as biased.

The political prisoners of the Soviet period, with the support of foreign colleagues, appealed to the authorities of our main strategic partner country to observe objectivity and impartiality in assessing Georgia’s internal political processes.

Our appeal points to the reality of the risk that the imbalance in such assessments and analyzes, and the categorical demand for values unacceptable to the mentality of the citizens of Georgia, create fertile ground for anti-Western sentiment. “This is not in the interests of either our country or our Western partners” – the statement said.
