Azerbaijani PM offers condolences on passing of Georgian Patriarch Ilia II

Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov has offered his condolences over the passing of Georgian Patriarch Ilia II in a letter sent to his Georgian counterpart Irakli Kobakhidze.
In his letter, Asadov expressed deep sorrow at the death of Ilia II, whom he described as “an influential spiritual leader of our era” who devoted his life to serving his people and upholding universal human values.
Asadov highlighted the Patriarch’s significant role in promoting peace, unity and interfaith dialogue across the Caucasus region. He noted that, regardless of nationality or religious affiliation, Ilia II earned the deep respect and affection of millions.
The letter also underscored Ilia II’s contribution to strengthening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia.
“On behalf of the Government of Azerbaijan, I extend my deepest condolences to the Government of Georgia, the Georgian people and the Georgian Orthodox Church on this loss,” the letter concluded.
